| Kobalt Tools 500 Pre-Race Notes CEDHOnline.com - March 2, 2010 Atlanta Motor Speedway March 7, 2010 Carl Edwards heads to his best track on the Sprint Cup Series circuit look for improvement on the first three events of the season, as the series makes its way to Hampton, Ga., for the Kobalt Tools 500 Edwards and Atlanta are a winning package: It's where he scored his first top-5, his first win in dramatic fashion and it's been one of his best result venue's on the circuit. In 11 starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, a 1.54 mile quad-oval, Edwards has three wins, six top-five, and eight top-ten finishes at the track. He has an average start of 11.0, and his average finish is 13.1. Edwards has completed 3498 circuits of the total 3584 attempted at AMS. Scotts Retro: This weekend the No. 99 Ford Fusion will carry a retro Scotts paint scheme that will commemorate the first victory that Edwards scored at Atlanta in 2005. The team will be taking RK-639 to the track this weekend, it was last raced at Kansas in September when Edwards finished tenth. It was raced two other events, Michigan in June(4th), and at Texas in April(10th) in 2009. Carl Edwards on the Kobalt Tools 500: "I can’t wait to go to Atlanta Motor Speedway. It’s in Aflac’s backyard and we are running a special Scotts paint scheme to commemorate my first NASCAR Sprint Cup win there. The track is great. It’s multi-grooved, fast, fun and has a lot of history. The fans there are awesome. The track is similar to Las Vegas where we made significant improvements, but we still need to work on it. This weekend means a lot to me and I can’t wait to race there." Bob Osborne on the Budweiser Shootout: “Atlanta has always been a very good track for Carl. He’s won there three times, including his first Cup and Nationwide wins in 2005. I feel like we made a lot of progress as a team in Vegas last weekend and hope we can keep that momentum going at Atlanta. We had a really good car in Vegas, but we got behind during that long green-flag run in the middle of the race and didn’t have time to recover from that before the race ended. Our pit crew has been amazing this year so we just need to put it all together.” |
